"It was another great team performance," Louisville head coach Tony Colaveechia said. "Its one we'll remember for a very long time."
Louisville's Matt Rose gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute when he headed home a Nick McDevitt pass off a dead ball. Rose's score ended a streak of 184 minutes of scoreless soccer between the teams, which played to a 0-0 tie on Oct. 12.
The Blazers had an opportunity score the equalizer on a penalty kick with 15.8 seconds remaining in the contest. However, UAB forward Flavio Monteiro's shot was smothered by Cardinal goalkeeper Brad Sokolowski to preserve the Louisville victory. U of L has won its last seven consecutive games.
Louisville moves on to face second-seeded and host Saint Louis in the second semifinal game, slated for an 8 p.m. start.
