TORONTO - Thursday night the University of Louisville men's soccer team continued their preseason trek in Canada against the New York Region Shooters. Despite torrential downpours and muddy conditions, the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
The first goal came when Adrian Cann's long ball found George Zabaneh streaking down the field. Zabaneh sent a one touch pass to Simon Bird, who beat the keeper on a breakaway. Five minutes later, Louisville made the score 2-0 on Bird's second goal of the game. New York struck back, however, on a free kick that made the score 2-1. With 10 minutes left in the first half, the Shooters added another goal and headed to the locker room with the score tied 2-2.
The second half was a defensive battle until , late in the game Courtenay Commander put the Cardinals up 3-2. Commander finished from close range to give Louisville, what was thought to be, the winning goal. The New York Region Shooters, however, scored in the final seconds to tie the game.
"We played a very inexperienced line-up, but during the game we held our own", said Head Coach Tony Colavecchia. The team takes the field Friday against the London Soccer Club.
