OTTAWA - In late action Wednesday night, the University of Louisville men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to the Ottawa Wizards. The Wizards, one of the best professional teams in Canada, defeated the Cardinals 5-4.
Louisville went up 1-0 when Simon Bird blasted a shot past the keeper. Ottawa scored shortly after on a free kick that Cardinal goalkeeper, Jeremy Morales, had no chance of saving. U of L reclaimed the lead when Andy Tsartolias bent a free kick around the wall of defenders for his first goal as a Cardinal. In the 35th minute, Nate Stevens gave Louisville a 3-1 advantage with his shot to the top corner. Justin Pierre strategically placed a header past the keeper, for his first Cardinal goal. The Cardinals took a 4-1 lead into the locker room.
The second half, however, was a different story. Ottawa stormed back against a younger Louisville lineup and eventually tied the game at 4-4. The Wizards scored the winning goal with just 2 minutes to play to earn the 5-4 victory.
