
Hook Leads Cardinal Baseball Team To Third Straight Victory

Louisville Baseball scored runs in seven of eight innings to defeat Southern Illinois 12-4 on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium. U of L has a chance to sweep the Salukis(6-8) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Centerfielder Mike Hook was 2 for 3 with two walks, three stolen bases, scored four runs, and hit his second home run of the season, a three-run shot to right-center, in the eighth.
Louisville(11-9) jumped out 2-0 in the first, thanks to two walks, an error and three steals.
SIU got back a run in the second on an RBI single by Sal Frisella, making it 2-1.
In the third, Mike Budak was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate a run, first baseman Morgan Bojorquez followed with a single, and right fielder Mark Jurich grounded out to drive in a run, making it 5-1.
Saluki shortstop Ryan Murray doubled down the leftfield line in the fourth with the bases loaded to close the gap to 5-4.
Catcher Fernando Isa singled home shortstop Adam Haley in the fourth, Jurich doubled home Budak in the fifth, DH Carlos De la Osa singled home Hook in the sixth, and Jurich hit a solo homer in the seventh to boost the Cardinal lead to 9-4. The blast to right-center by Jurich was his team-leading fourth of the season, and came with two out in the frame.
Hook followed a single by Haley and a double by Isa with his round-tripper in the eighth to close the scoring.
U of L starter Denny Williams (3-2) was the winner, going 6.2 innings, and giving up four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five. Senior Antonio Castellvi went the final 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out two. Castellvi ended the seventh by striking out SIU DH Scott Hankey looking with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Southern Illinois sent five pitchers to the hill, with starter Bill Clayton(2-1) picking up the loss, pitching two innings, and giving up five runs, four of which were earned, on just one hit and five walks. He had two strikeouts.
Isa had three hits, including two doubles, while Hook, Haley and Jurich all had two hits.
Louisville is now 10-3 at home.
