Louisville sophomore Mike Tisdale was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, for the week of February 12th-18th.
Tisdale, a transfer from St. Petersburg Community College in Florida, tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in the Cardinals series-opening 14-0 victory over Detroit on Saturday. Louisville swept the four-game series, the first four game sweep since 1976.
The 6' 3" right-hander went seven innings, walked only two and struck out seven, facing 26 batters-just five over the minimum. He induced four 1-2-3 innings and worked his way out of a jam in the second. With the bases loaded and one out, he induced a ground ball to first for the force at home and struck out Detroit second baseman Zak Voit to end the threat.
Tisdale hails from Peterborough, Ontario, and has now tossed nine consecutive scoreless innings. He is 1-1 overall on the 2001 season with a 3.95 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .200 against him.
Louisville is 5-6 on the season and will host Northern Iowa in a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m.
