LEXINGTON, Ky. - LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team lost to the University of Kentucky 7-0 Friday at the Hilary J. Boone Indoor Tennis Center in Lexington.
The No. 32 ranked Wildcats swept the doubles as Kentucky's Brooke Skeen and Lauren Rookledge combined to beat Louisville's Katie McLaughlin and Kelly Whitler 8-2 at the top seed. The tenth-ranked doubles team of Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten defeated Louisville's freshman tandem of Julie Penn and Paige Eber 8-0 at No. 2, and the Wildcats' Jill Buckley and Amy Trefethen defeated the team of Kelly Kiehna and Mariana Torres 8-2 at the No. 3 spot. In singles action, Kentucky swept the Cards in straight sets.
"Our young team is getting a lot of quality experience," said U of L head coach Meg Peavy. "We have a tough schedule, and two injuries to overcome, but the players are giving great effort and learning from each match."
Louisville (2-4) will travel to No. 33 Illinois on Feb. 3 and Conference USA opponent UAB on Feb. 4.
