LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Kelly McClain had 19 kills, 18 digs and 2 aces to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-2 win over Saint Louis in Conference USA action at Cardinal Arena.
Louisville remains tied with Cincinnati for first in the conference with a 9-2 record in the league. The 13-15, 15-6, 8-15, 15-4, 15-13 win pushed the Cardinals to a 12-9 record. Saint Louis moves to 8-4 in the league and 21-5 overall.
"I was worried when we lost our setter Jing Ding in a crucial part of the match. But Emily Roberson came in at setter and we didn't miss a beat. I think our earlier adversity makes our team able to roll with just about anything," said Leonid Yelin.
Ding was unable to return to the match after colliding with a teammate on the floor and sustaining a possible concussion.
Louisville had four players in double digit kills with Sonja Percan and Sherry Hurley each adding 14. Freshman Stacey Mercer had 12 kills and six blocks for U of L.
Louisville returns to conference action Sunday at 2 p.m. when UNC Charlotte visits. Former Cardinal assistant coach Patty Dennison now heads the 49ers.
