ST. LOUIS - Laura Risley had 20 kills to lead Saint Louis to a three-game sweep of Louisville in Conference USA volleyball Sunday.
The Cardinals fell to 3-9 with a 1-2 mark in conference. Saint Louis improves to 15-2 and 2-1 in the league.
The Cardinals regained the services of setter Jing Ding, who won her NCAA eligibility appeal on Friday and flew down to meet her team in St. Louis. However, kill leader Sonja Percan was sidelined with a knee injury.
But superior firepower was the difference in the match. Saint Louis hit a hot .319 to Louisville's .101.
"Saint Louis has played strong all year and they have a lot of experience," said Leonid Yelin. "I was thrilled to have our setter back which puts us all back in our regular positions. It is just difficult to go back with just one day of practice together."
In the first game, the Cardinals spotted the Billikens the first eight points before attempting a comeback. The Cards made up ground with a five point run, but Saint Louis quickly responded with another four points to go up 12-5. A block and a kill for points by senior Sherry Hurley were not enough as the Billikens cruised to a 15-7 win. Saint Louis hit a blistering .355 to U of L's .163.
Louisville scored the first two points in the second game, but let SLU run off eight straight points to go up 8-2 and could get no closer than six points from that point on. The Cardinals did not challenge in the third set to fall 15-5.
The Cardinals were led by Kelly McClain's 14 kills.
