LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated preseason Conference USA favorite South Florida 4-0 Saturday afternoon.
Junior Justin Prather, making his first start of the season, opened the Cardinals' scoring when he converted on a penalty kick at the 19:19 mark. Eight minutes later, Prather took a pass from senior Tim Matter and put U of L up 2-0.
Sophomore Georga Zabanah gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead after stealing the ball from a USF defender and finding the back of the net at the 35:55 mark. Junior Adam Ottembrajt rounded out U of L's scoring on an assist from Prather early in the second half.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Morales held off South Florida with six saves for the match.
"This was an unexpected win by that scoring margin," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We knew we were capable of scoring some goals, and we just happened to take it out on South Florida."
The Cardinals (3-2-1, 1-1) will be in action again on Thursday when they play host to defending national champions Indiana University at 7:30 p.m.
