LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated the Cincinnati Riverhawks of the United Soccer League's A-League 3-1 Monday night at Cardinal Field.
The Cards opened the scoring late in the first half. Junior forward Justin Prather was fouled just outside the penalty area by a Riverhawk defender in the 38th minute. On the ensuing free kick, junior defender Stuart Langrish drove a left footed shot into the upper right hand corner of the net.
The Riverhawks leveled the score in the 57th minute when the Louisville defense was caught out of position. The Riverhawk attacker lobbed the ball over freshman goalkeeper Francis Dumont from 22 yards out.
Louisville went back on top for good when sophomore forward George Zabaneh scored 20 minutes into the second half after stealing the ball from a Riverhawk defender and placing it past the goalkeeper from eight yards out. On the resulting kick-off, freshman defender T.J. Kennedy entered the game and notched the Cards' third goal of the game only 20 seconds later.
The Cards are 1-1 in spring season play after falling to the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer in the season-opener 3-1. Louisville will return to action this Friday at Cardinal Field as they play host to arch-rival Western Kentucky. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Admission is free for everyone.
