Bentley Leads Cards To 7-1 Win Over Memphis

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville beat Memphis 7-1 in Conference USA baseball action Friday at Cardinal Stadium.
U of L scored in the bottom of the first when Troy Hilpp singled to right field to reach first, moved to second on Scott Kohler's walk, advanced to third when Paul Brown walked to load the bases and scored on Curtis Sapp's sacrifice fly to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers evened the score in the top of the second when Jonathan Leicester reached on a walk and moved to second when Tony Shelton was issued a walk and scored on Craig Hopkins' base hit.
The Cardinals went ahead in the third inning when Sapp reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Kyle Rajsich's two-run homer to give Louisville a 3-1 lead.
U of L got three insurance runs in the sixth inning when Troy Hilpp drew a walk to reach first, moved to third on a Memphis error and scored on Curtis Sapp's fielder's choice. Sapp scored on Morgan Bojorquez's first career home run to make the score 6-1.
The Cards' final run came in the bottom of the eighth when Bojorquez singled to reach first, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a Memphis error and crossed the plate on Hilpp's base hit to make the score 7-1.
Offensively the Cards were led by Bojorquez, who went three for four, a double shy of hitting for the cycle, with a single, a triple and a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Hilpp also went three for four with two runs scored and an RBI.
Louisville starter Brian Bentley (2-2) threw his second complete game of the season, allowing one run on six hits and striking out 10. Bentley currently holds the school record for the most career wins with 19.
Memphis starter Jonathan Leicester (0-8) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in three innings pitched.
The Cardinals (11-23-1, 5-7-1) will continue the three-game series with Memphis (12-23, 6-6) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.
