LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Morehead State pounded out 20 hits off of Louisville pitching en route to a 14-9 victory in baseball action Tuesday night. Five Cardinal errors compounded the troubles for U of L (11-26-1).
Eagle first baseman Will Renaker lead the offensive attack going 5-for-6 with four RBI, including a three-run homer to right in Morehead State's (17-18-1) eight-run fourth, putting them up 9-1.
The Cards battled back in the bottom half of the inning, putting up five runs of their own. The first seven batters of the inning reached, but two outs on the base paths limited a bigger inning.
Shawn Hoover (1-3) surrendered five straight hits to begin the fourth, getting the hook following Renaker's blast as he was the loser. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits and a walk.
Four other Eagles had multi-hit games, and each of the nine starters scored runs.
Matt Soale (2-4) spelled starter Ryan Terrell who had walked seven and given up four runs on three hits in three plus innings of work. Soale pitched the final six innings picking up the win with five runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits and no walks.
Mike Hook, Kyle Rajsich, Scott Kohler and Matt Jarboe had two hits apiece for U of L, while Paul Brown drove in three on a hit and two walks.
The Cards are back in action Wednesday night at Cardinal Stadium as they host Xavier (OH) at 6:00.
