Southern Miss Completes Baseball Sweep Over Cards

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss crushed Louisville 15-3 in Conference USA baseball Sunday in a game that was called after seven innings due to the 12-run rule.
Centerfielder Dusty Haley smashed two home runs. his league-leading 13th on the season, and drove in four. Each of the nine Eagle starters had a hit, five had two or more, and four drove in two or more runs.
Reliever Joe Paul (3-0) pitched 4.1 scoreless innings on three hits and two walks to get the win.
The Golden Eagles (24-11, 10-1) jumped out early on starter Sean Green (0-5) as the first seven batters of the game reached base safely, with four of those scoring. Two came in on first baseman Chris Finnegan's single, and he scored when designated hitter DeQuincy Scott blasted a two-run home run to right center.
USM added two more in the second and fourth innings on the home runs by Haley. Two walks and five hits compounded the damage in a six-run fifth for Southern Miss.
Senior Troy Hilpp was 2-for-3 and scored in the three-run third for U of L (10-22-1,4-7-1).
The Cards will face intrastate rival Kentucky at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Lexington.
