Cardinal Baseball Falls To Austin Peay 5-4

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville fell to Austin Peay 5-4 in baseball action at Cardinal Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Governors (12-5) jumped out on top with two runs in the third inning and two in the fourth off starter Shawn Hoover (1-2) who took the loss after pitching four innings, giving up four runs on five hits walking one and striking out two. Three of the runs were earned.
Governor reliever Stephen Pew (3-0) picked up the win despite surrendering three runs in two and a third innings on only one hit and five walks. Third baseman Lance Wampler and DH Greg Troy each provided two of the Govs seven hits, and drove in a run. Wampler homered to lead off the fourth. Catcher Brendan Loughery singled in the fourth to extend his personal hitting streak to 11 games.
The Cards (5-14) batted around in the sixth, scoring three runs on only one hit, a two-run single by second baseman Matt Jarboe. Freshman Morgan Bojorquez's pinch hit single in the ninth plated Scott Kohler, who had singled with one out, but Peay's Keith DeGraff struck out Bill Gatti to end the game.
DeGraff went three and two thirds giving up three hits and only one run and one walk to go with four strikeouts in picking up his first save of the season. Cardinal relievers Antonio Castellvi and Mike Eilers combined for five innings of work, giving up only one hit, and one run.
The Cards will travel to New Orleans to face Tulane (12-7) for a three game weekend series beginning Friday.
