TAMPA, Fla. - The Louisville baseball team took game two of the weekend series against South Florida 10-8 in Tampa Saturday afternoon.
Centerfielder Mike Hook led off the game with an infield single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on first baseman Curtis Sapp's single to right to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the third, the Cards put six consecutive men on base, scoring four to extend its lead to 6-1. Second baseman Matt Jarboe drove in two with a single to left. First baseman Curtis Sapp opened the inning with a two out single, and was 3-for-5, scoring two and driving in two.
Sapp and designated hitter Bill Gatti Jr. each had solo home runs to cushion the Cardinal lead. Sapp drilled a 3-2 pitch to right-center with two out in the fourth, and Gatti did the same to left center in the fifth to put the Cards up 8-1.
Louisville scored two more in the ninth on RBI singles by pinch-hitter Kyle Rajsich and Hook to extend the lead to 10-4.
The Bulls (14-17, 2-6) rallied for four in the bottom of the inning off reliever Sean Green, but with the winning run at the plate, Green induced a ground ball to short off the bat of second baseman Ben Drawdy for the final out of the game.
Todd Raithel (2-4) pitched seven strong innings, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits, a walk and a strikeout to pick up the win.
South Florida's starter Alex Brown (2-6) was the loser, surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits, three walks and one strikeout.
