Giorgiana Zeremenko
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
In December 2018, University of Louisville head softball coach Holly Aprile announced the addition of Giorgiana Zeremenko to her staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Giorgiana Zeremenko join our staff,” said Aprile. “The value of adding someone of G’s individual and athletic caliber to our staff, who also understands the values and purpose behind everything that we do is immeasurable. She has an incredible passion for the game and I know that she will establish a great rapport with our student-athletes. We can’t wait for her to get to the ‘Ville and get started.”
Zeremenko joins the Cardinals following a stellar playing career at Pittsburgh during which she helped the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a pair of runner-up finishes in the conference championship. The two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-Mid-Atlantic Region selection and all-ACC honoree played for the Panthers from 2015 through 2018 and left her name etched in the Pitt record book, owning the career mark for home runs (46) and standing tied for second with 127 RBIs.
The catcher had a breakout season in 2016 when she belted out a program-record 17 home runs while leading the team with a .392 batting average, and setting single-season marks for on-base percentage (.487) and slugging percentage (.888). Following the season, she picked up the first of her NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors as a second team selection.
As a senior, Zeremenko played an integral role in Pitt’s first ACC Coastal Division championship, pacing the squad with a .340 batting average, 50 hits, 15 home runs and was second on the team with 29 RBIs. She finished her career with all-ACC and all-Mid-Atlantic Region first team honors.
Following the completion of her collegiate career, Zeremenko became the first softball player in Pitt history to be drafted to play professionally when she was selected by the E1 Pro Ballers as the 19th overall pick in the inaugural American Softball Association (ASBA) draft. She went on to earn 2018 All-ASBA first-team honors after posting a .303 batting average and leading the E1 Pro Ballers with nine home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs.
The Canonsburg, Pa.,native graduated from Pittsburgh in 2018 with a degree in exercise science and was an all-ACC academic team member her senior year.
“I’m super excited to work under this amazing staff and learn from them on the other side of the lines,” said Zeremenko. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to start my coaching career at a top-tier university like the University of Louisville. It’s a great college town and the environment is electric and I can’t wait to get down there and get started.”
