Alec Bates joined Rodrigo da Silva's men's tennis staff as an assistant coach in January 2020.

Bates graduated in 2018 with a degree in psychology from Hanover College where he was a member of the men’s tennis team. During his time with the Panthers, he was a three-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic All-Conference honoree and advanced to three HCAC Tournament semifinals.

A native of New Albany, Ind., Bates is currently pursuing his Masters in Management at Indiana University Southeast. Competing for the Grenadiers during his final year of eligibility, he was the River States Conference Tournament and regular season runner-up.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Bates was the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at Indiana University Southeast. As the head tennis professional at the Southern Indiana Tennis Center and the assistant tennis professional at Hunting Creek Country Club, Bates has experience coaching and developing plans for all ages and abilities.
