Louisville adds the rising senior guard from Dayton
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's basketball head coach Pat Kelsey announced the signing of De'Shayne Montgomery on Tuesday.
"De'Shayne is a dog," said Kelsey. "On day one, he steps in as a nasty, rugged competitor. He's a very athletic, two-way guard that simply finds a way to produce. One of the preeminent steal-threats in all of a college basketball, the toughness, anticipation, and ferocity he plays with on the defensive end will be a tone-setter for our program. Offensively, his balance as a decision-maker, shooter, and constant threat on the rim fits our identity to a tee."
Montgomery joins the Cardinals as a rising senior after seasons at Dayton, Georgia and Mount St. Mary's.
As a junior at Dayton, Montgomery earned All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors after starting in all 36 games for the Flyers, averaging 13.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest. He shot 49% from the floor, including a 33.5% clip from beyond the arc.
Montgomery led the Flyers in steals at 77 total, 2.1 per game, and was second in the league at that mark. He scored in double digits in 28 of his 36 appearances, scoring 20 or more on seven occasions, including a season-high 27 points against ETSU on Dec. 2, 2025.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native spent his sophomore season at Georgia. Montgomery appeared in 17 games for the Bulldogs, averaging 6.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 15.5 minutes per contest. He scored in double digits in four games, including a season-high 22 points against Charleston Southern.
Montgomery began his collegiate career at Mount St. Mary's in 2023-24. He appeared in 32 contests for the Mountaineers, starting in 10 of those games. Montgomery was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Year after averaging 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Montgomery scored 20 or more points in six of the final seven games of the season. He recorded nine games overall of 20-plus points, including a season-high 27 against Siena. Montgomery shot 53.8% from the field as a freshman with a 41.2% mark from long range.
Montgomery spent one year post-high school at Hargrave Military Academy, leading the Tigers to a 44-2 record while averaging 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game. He shot 56.3% from the floor during that season, earning All-American Honorable Mention honors.
Prior to his year at Hargrave, Montgomery spent his senior year at Somerset Prep North Lauderdale.
