Kelsey signs the 7-5 center after a season at USC
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's basketball head coach Pat Kelsey announced the signing of Gabe Dynes on Tuesday.
"Gabe has a unique combination of size, basketball IQ and mobility," said Kelsey. "The combination of intelligence and length makes him a great defender around the rim and a major asset to our team. On the offensive end, we look forward to seeing his growth and development in our system. He runs the floor exceptionally well in transition and his capability as a lob threat constantly puts pressure on opposing defenses. We're excited to have him join the squad."
Dynes returns to the Commonwealth as a rising senior by way of USC. Prior to his time in California, he played for two seasons at Youngstown State.
The 7-5, 215-pound center most recently averaged 2.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks while shooting 78.8% from the floor across 30 games with Southern California.
Dynes recorded nine games with multiple blocks including a game of four against UC Santa Cruz and four at Penn State. He had three games in double figure scoring.
Prior to his time at USC, the Independence, Ky., native was a two-time Horizon League All-Defensive Team selection. He led the nation in blocks in 2024-25, totaling 104 over 34 games.
Dynes started in six games as a sophomore, averaging 6.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He recorded four double-doubles and 10 outings of double-figure scoring on the year while shooting 69% from the field.
In addition to All-Defensive Team his freshman year, Dynes was also named to the league's All- Freshman Team. He appeared in 27 games with four starts, amassing 61 total blocks. He shot 70.6% from the floor, averaging 3.9 points and 4.0 boards per game.
Dynes competed at Simon Kenton High School. He shot 74% as a senior, the second-best field goal percentage in the state (KHSAA). He was named first-time all-conference by the Northern Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (NKBCA) and Division I Defensive Player of the Year while averaging 12.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
