Kelsey adds another incoming freshman by way of Veritas Academy
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's basketball head coach Pat Kelsey announced the signing of Boyuan Zhang on Tuesday.
"Boyuan Zhang is a producer," said Kelsey. "Bo was the second leading scorer in the EYBL Scholastic league this season, playing for a Veritas team that competed against some of the top competition in the country. Globally, Bo has been a standout in FIBA competition representing his home country of China. Known for playing with passion, energy and toughness, he brings great size, versatility and an advanced knack for scoring. We are beyond excited to watch Bo continue his rapid development in our system."
The 6-7 forward heads to The Ville by way of Veritas Academy out of Garden Grove, Calif. He is a four-star recruit, coming in as one of the best small forwards in the country according to 247Sports, ESPN and On3.
Zhang played his senior year of high school basketball with Veritas, averaging 20.2 points per game over the course of 14 contests in 2025-26.
Zhang has played with the Chinese national team for a number of years including in the FIBA U16 Asian Championship, FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, U18 Asia Cup and U19 Basketball World Cup. In 2024, he earned the individual All-Star award in the U18 Asia Cup.
Most recently on the global stage in 2025, Zhang scored 14.7 points per game and recorded 5.1 rebounds per game in the U19 Basketball World Cup. He shot 42.2% from the floor during the event while averaging 26.5 minutes on the floor.
When playing for the U18 Chinese national team, Zhang averaged 17.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in the Asia Cup.
