Cardinals Finish Sixth at ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships
May 17, 2026 | Track & Field
Ryan Farrell (men’s 800m), Elsingi Kipruto (men’s 5000m), and Roman Kuleshov (men’s triple jump) all won ACC titles on the final day of competition.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams posted a pair of sixth-place finishes in the team standings as they closed out the third and final day of the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park.
The Louisville men put 74 points for their best finish at the outdoor conference championship meet since 2023, while the women's squad combined for a total of 59 points. Over the course of the weekend, the Cardinals combined for a program-record six individual ACC titles, three of which came on Saturday.
Roman Kuleshov began the final day of action with a victory in the men's triple jump, securing the gold with a leap of 16.35m (53-7.75) (+2.6) just one day after capturing the conference title in the men's long jump on Friday. The senior was named Men's Field MVP at the conclusion of the meet after racking up 20 points for the Cardinals in the horizontal jumps, while also becoming the first double champion on the men's side in program history.
After a three-and-a-half-hour weather delay due to lightning in the area, Ryan Farrell electrified the home crowd in the men's 800m, riding a lethal finishing kick over the last 100m to the first ACC title of his career. The redshirt senior crossed the line in a winning time of 1:46.49 to become the first Cardinal ever to win the men's 800m at the ACC championship meet.
Elsingi Kipruto also earned the first ACC title of his young career on the track, continuing his ascension as one of the brightest young stars in collegiate distance running with a gold medal in the men's 5000m. The freshman broke the tape in a personal-best and Louisville freshman record time of 13:23.34, making a decisive move with five laps to go to open a gap between himself and the rest of the field and become the first Cardinal ever to win ACC gold in the event.
The Cardinals accounted for two of the top three finishers in the men's 5000m, as Geoffrey Kirwa also earned a spot on the podium, claiming the bronze with a time of 13:30.19 to earn the first ACCs podium finish of his career.
The Louisville women picked up big points in the women's triple jump, as a trio of Cards combined to score a total of 15 points in the event. Alba Cuns Iglesias led the charge, bounding to a mark of 13.20m (43-3.75), the third-best wind-legal mark in school history, to finish as the ACC runner-up.
Sharvari Parulekar finished just behind her, moving up from ninth to the third spot with a leap of 13.09m (42-11.5) on her final attempt of the competition, while Anna Panenko rounded out the scorers with a mark of 12.81m (42-0.5) to place eighth.
In the women's discus throw, Kaia Tupu-South picked up her second runner-up finish of the meet, garnering silver in the women's discus throw with a toss of 53.27m (174-9) after doing the same in the women's shot put on Friday.
Miller Jones rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals at the championship meet, picking up a point in the men's triple jump with a mark of 15.65m (51-4.25) (+2.4) to finish eighth.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the NCAA East Region First Round, which will take place in Lexington, Ky. from May 27-30 and serve as one of two qualifying meets for the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Athletes who hold top-48 marks in the East region throughout the outdoor season in their respective events will earn berths to the regional meet. The full list of Louisville qualifiers to the regional competition will be announced next week.
