Cards Open ACC Championship in Seventh Place

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf teams opened the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in seventh place after the first round of action at Shark's Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Beach, Fla.
The Cardinals shot 2-over-par 290 to enter Friday's round 15 shots off the lead. Stanford is running away from the field at 13-under-par, with Wake Forest in second place at 3-under-par and North Carolina in third place at 2-under-par. Georgia Tech is in fourth place at 1-under-par and SMU is in fifth place at even par.
The Cardinals were up-and-down most of the afternoon with 16 bogeys and 11 birdies, which included an eagle on No. 16 by Easton Johnson.
Johnson, Brady Smith and Warren Thomis are each tied for 21st place after shooting even-par 72 on Thursday. Johnson recorded a birdie on No. 13 and that eagle, while Smith and Thomis combined for five birdies.
Cooper Claycomb sits in a tie for 35th place at 2-over-par, while Andrew Tan is tied for 72nd place at 8-over-par.
