Cardinals Close Five-Meet Split

The Cards combined for five program records and 20 top-10 performances over the course of the week.
The University of Louisville track & field teams closed out their five-meet split week on Saturday, rounding out competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Virginia Challenge, and Beach Invitational.

Over the course of the week across five meets, the Cards combined for two ACC records, five program records, two Louisville freshman records, and 20 performances that currently rank among the top 10 in program history.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Nancy Chepleting reset the program record in the women's 5000m with a massive personal-best time of 15:30.20. Coming into the meet with an outdoor personal record of 16:41.01, the sophomore put together a record-breaking performance that shattered the previous Louisville best of 15:46.36 that was set by Layla Roebke during the 2025 season.

The Cards saw two more 5000m performances that stand as top-10 times in program history, as Emma McGill also leapt up to sixth all-time on the women's side with a time of 16:05.34, while Leo Brewer moved to fourth on the men's with a time of 13:52.38.

A number of Louisville athletes also contested the 1500m late Saturday night, led by Ryan Farrell, who followed up his program-record run in the 800m on Friday with a personal-best 1500m time of 3:45.63 that ranks him third in Louisville history.

Brewer doubled back from the 5000m the previous evening and improved on his 1500m season-best, crossing the line in 3:47.07 to move up to seventh in the program record books.

Lucinda Rourke also moved into the top 10 all-time in the women's 1500m after setting an 800m program record on Friday, clocking a time of 4:25.93 to close out the Bryan Clay Invitational.

The Louisville jumpers concluded action at the Virginia Challenge, notably getting five performances that currently rank among the top 10 in program history on the triple jump runway.

Roman Kuleshov claimed the top spot in the men's triple jump, bounding to a wind-aided mark of 16.57m (54-4.5) (+2.4) in his season debut in the event that stands as the top mark in the ACC and moves him into the top five in the NCAA thus far this season.

Within the field series, Kuleshov posted a wind-legal mark of 16.26m (53-4.25) that makes him the third Cardinal in program history to record a wind-legal leap of at least 16 meters.

Miller Jones also made his first appearance in the triple jump this season, placing fourth with a wind-aided mark of 15.96m (52-4.25) (+3.3). Jones also moved up to sixth all-time in the Louisville record books with a wind-legal mark of 15.78m (51-9.25).

In the women's triple jump, Anna Panenko notched a third-place finish with a massive personal-best mark of 13.15m (43-1.75) that moves her up to third in Louisville history. Sharvari Parulekar finished fourth with a leap of 13.00m (42-8), the best wind-legal jump of her collegiate career that ranks fifth in the program record books.

After notching a mark of 6.36m (20-5) in the women's long jump on Friday afternoon, Eve Divinity moved into the top 10 in Louisville history in the women's 200m, racing to a time of 24.18 that ranks seventh all-time to round out the meet.

BEACH INVITATIONAL

The Louisville sprinters, throwers, and pole vaulters wrapped up their second and final day of competition at the Beach Invitational on Saturday.
Â
Ashley Callahan continued her string of impressive performances in the women's pole vault, recording a runner-up finish with a final clearance of 4.47m (14-8). Iliana Triantafyllou cleared a bar of 4.22m (13-10) in her first action since the NCAA Indoor Championships, while Lydia Stuart matched her personal best with a mark of 4.07m (13-4.25).

On the men's side, Lucas Couron made his season debut with a clearance of 5.25m (17-2.75), while Ty McPhail cleared a bar of 5.10m (16-8.75).

Kaia Tupu-South rounded her weekend with a pair of solid performances in the women's shot put and discus throw, winning the discus with a toss of 54.77m (179-8) and placing third in the shot put after throwing 16.77m (55-0.25).

On the track, Breanna Braham set a Louisville freshman record in the women's 400m with a time of 54.04, bettering the previous rookie best of 54.20 that was set in 2022 by Je'Nyia Burton and moving up to third overall in program history.

The quartet of Braham, Zylah Sturdivant, Jalasia Lewis, and McKenzie Bell rounded out the day in Long Beach with a time of 3:40.70 that sets a season best by over nine seconds and ranks as the third-best time in Louisville history.Â

Up next, the Cardinals will return home for the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational, their only home meet of the regular season, which will be staged over three days from Apr. 23-25 at Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park.
