Louisville Grabs 8-2 Win Over Campbell to Start Ohio State Tournament
March 20, 2026 | Softball
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Campbell 8-2 on the first day of the Ohio State Tournament on Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
With the win, Louisville moves to 22-7 on the season, and Jayden Gohs (4-1) grabbed her fourth win in the circle this year. Gohs tossed 4.0 innings without allowing a run, giving up just two hits while striking out three. Alyssa Zabala entered in the fifth to close out the game and fanned four batters and allowed one unearned run.
After two quiet innings of work by Gohs, the Cards got on the board in the home half of the second after Camryn Lookadoo scored on a fielder's choice from Jordan Williams. Gohs continued her dominant day in the circle before UofL found the board again in the bottom of the fourth.
A leadoff hit by pitch and subsequent stolen base by Taylor Monroe got her in scoring position for Ava Venturelli, who doubled Monroe home to give Louisville a 2-0 lead. Riley Janda joined Venturelli on the basepaths, and Easton Lotus ripped a two-out single to drive in both runners and double the lead.
Campbell struck in the top of the fifth and kept the Cards quiet in the bottom frame. Zabala left the bases loaded in the sixth to get UofL back to the plate. Louisville loaded its own bases with one out as Lotus used a sacrifice fly to drive in Janda. Williams scored on a wild pitch that moved Chelsea Mack to third and Bri Despines to second. Madison Pickens fought through a seven-pitch at bat to drive in both runners and give the Cards an 8-2 lead.
Zabala held it down in the seventh, striking out two of four batters to seal the 8-2 UofL win. Louisville will be back in action on Saturday, March 21, to take on Indiana State and Ohio State at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively.Â
