April 26, 2026 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ava Venturelli logged the first multi-home run game of her career as the No. 25-ranked University of Louisville softball team (41-10, 16-5 ACC) completed the weekend sweep over Syracuse with a 13-7 win on Sunday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.
Venturelli led the offense with four RBIs and two runs on three hits. Bri Despines logged one double and three RBIs on the day, while Taylor Monroe grabbed a two-RBI double as her one hit of the day. Brooke Gray (13-1) took the win in the circle after logging 3.1 innings in relief of Alyssa Zabala, allowing just two runs and striking out three.
The Cards struck first with a two-run bottom of the first inning that saw both Chelsea Mack and Despines score on two separate wild pitches. UofL plated three more runs in the home half of the second with an RBI single from Easton Lotus and a two-RBI double by Despines to take a 5-0 lead.
Syracuse's Madison Knight launched her first home run of the day in the top of the third, but Venturelli responded with her first long ball in the bottom of the inning to keep Louisville ahead 7-2.
An RBI single by the Orange allowed Knight to come up again and hit her second home run of the day to get SU within one at 7-6. Madison Pickens stopped their momentum with an RBI single that was followed by a two-run double from Monroe for a 10-6 Cardinal lead.
UofL found the scoreboard again in the bottom of the fifth as Despines used a groundout to score Addy O'Dell for the 11th run. Syracuse grabbed one run in the sixth, but Venturelli knocked her second two-run shot in the home half of the inning for a 13-7 lead. Gray closed out the seventh with a three up, three down inning that featured two strikeouts.
Louisville will be back in action when it travels to NC State from May 1-3 for its last ACC series of the season.
