Cardinals Close Out First Day of Split Weekend

The University of Louisville track & field teams notched 10 podium finishes between the Crossroads of America Invitational and PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic on the first day of their split weekend.

CROSSROADS OF AMERICA INVITATIONAL
The Cardinals totaled four podium finishes on their first day of competition at the Crossroads of America Invitational in Indianapolis, three of which came by virtue of the women's long jump.
Â
Synclair Savage and Eve Divinity took two of the top three spots in the invitational section of the event, with Savage finishing as the runner-up with a mark of 6.08m (19-11.5) and Divinity placing third after recording a leap of 6.01m (19-8.75).

In the open section of the women's long jump, freshman Athena Peterson picked up the first win of her collegiate career, posting a massive personal record with a mark of 5.98m (19-7.5).

Ty McPhail rounded out the first day in Indy for the Cardinals with a second-place showing in the invitational section of the men's pole vault, clearing a final bar of 5.17m (16-11.5).

The second and final day of the Crossroads of America Invitational will get underway tomorrow morning with the women's triple jump at 10:00 a.m. ET.

PNC BANK BELLARMINE CLASSIC
A small group of Cardinals remained in Louisville for the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, led by two meet records from Lucinda Rourke and Kaia Tupu-South.

Rourke clocked the second-fastest 800m time in program history, clocking a time of 2:06.67 to win the event by nearly 10 seconds and move into the top 20 nationally among times entering the weekend.

In the women's shot put, Tupu-South made her Louisville debut after spending the first three years of her career at Washington, recording a toss of 16.46m (54-0) to move up to sixth in the Louisville record books and win the invitational section of the women's shot put. Aja Johnson joined her on the podium with a personal-best mark of 13.61m (44-8) to finish as the runner-up.

KJ Byrd also posted a runner-up finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.88m (22-7), while also setting a new personal record of 13.54m (44-5.25) in the men's shot put.

Maya Follmer tied her personal-best time of 8.77 in the women's 60m hurdles to claim second place and also garnered a third-place finish in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.53m (18-1.75).
