Cardinals Sweep Dayton in Spring Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team swept the Dayton Flyers in the spring home opening match Saturday afternoon at the Bass Rudd Tennis Center.Â

The Cardinals (1-0) took the doubles point, winning all three courts. At No. 1, Alice Otis and Lika Persypkina downed UD's Natalie Osiecki and Montserrat Sierra 6-2. Berta Miret and Elena Noguero then rolled 6-2 at the No. 2 slot with a win over Mallory Hitchcock and Baby Jordan to clinch the point. UofL's Germany Davis and Rebekkah Gaines bested Haley Klein and Grace Murphy 6-3 at the No. 3 slot.Â

Alice Otis was the first to win in singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Natalie Osiecki at No. 1 singles and Jaswal Anshika followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Grace Murphy. Elena Noguero clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Montserrat Sierra at No. 2. The Cardinals also got wins from Germany Davis at No. 3, Berta Miret at No. 4 and Rebekkah Gaines at No. 5.Â

The Cardinals are back in action on Monday, when they host intrastate rival Western Kentucky at 3:00 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.Â
