Cardinals to Open Spring Season with Dayton and WKU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team opens their spring schedule with a pair of  regional foes taking on Dayton on Jan. 17  and then  Western Kentucky on Jan. 19 at the Bass Rudd Tennis Center. UofL plays Dayton at 3 p.m. and WKU at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals last competed at the ITA South Sectional Championships in Baton Rouge when doubles pair Alice Otis and Lika Persypkina fell to Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray of Vanderbilt 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-4. Otis and Peresypkina gained entry into the sectionals by winning their first round by default after an injury to their opponent from Austin Peay. The pair then rolled 8-2 over Saskia Soome/Yontha Tadoum from Southeast Missouri State. The Louisville pair then fell to Vanderbilt's Mia Yamakita and Erin Pearce 8-6 in a tightly contested match at the ITA Regional. Prior to the ITA competition,  UofL  had 11 singles wins and four doubles wins after the first two days of the Hoosier Classic at the Outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts.
Dayton finished the 2024-25 season 11-12, falling to Fordham in the second round of the A-10 Championship.e This fall, Caroline Boyle posted the best record at 4-2 and went undefeated at 3-0 when paired with Grace Murphy in doubles. In their final outing of the fall season, the Flyers faced  Cleveland State, Oakland and Toledo at the Rocket Indoor Invitational. Against these teams, the Flyers took home nine wins, with five singles and four doubles wins.  Boyle, Haley Klein and Natalie Osiecki each won one singles match. Mallory Hitchcock led UD with two.Montserrat Sierra joined Osiecki to pick up two doubles wins. Hitchcock and Baby Jordan, along with Klein and Grace Murphy, each earned a win in doubles play.

WKU finished the fall with a record of 20-11 in singles matches and a record of 11-7 in doubles matches during the two events it played in – the APSU Fall Tournament and the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational. WKU is coming off a 15-10 season, which included a 12-6 record at home. The 15 wins are tied for third-most in a single season in program history and the 12 home wins are tied for the most at home in a single season. WKU's 62 wins over the previous four years are the most in a four-year stretch in program history.
