Cards Head West for Conference Play

Louisville welcomes No. 15 Cal and No. 9 Stanford to the ACC with first-time matchups
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team is traveling to the west coast to face highly ranked talent in No. 15 California and No. 9 Stanford. The match against the Golden Bears will be played on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET followed by a Saturday match against the Cardinal beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Louisville (6-10, 0-4 ACC) battled against tough opponents and snapped their losing streak over the weekend.Â
The Cards quickly claimed the doubles point in last Friday's match against UNC, but ended up dropping the heartbreaker 4-3.Â
Then on Sunday, Louisville didn't go down without a fight against No. 11 Duke. Doubles competition came down to a tiebreaker on Court 2 in which the Blue Devils claimed 7-6 (7-3), but not before Andre' Steinbach and Kosuke Nakanishi knocked down the formerly-ranked No. 71 doubles pairing in the country, 6-4. Singles competition was just as fierce, but the highly-ranked Blue Devils walked away with the win.Â
The night match was successful for the Cards as they swept Southern Indiana 7-0. Sophomore Russell Lokko got the start on Court 6 and took home a dominant 6-0, 6-0 to get singles competition rolling for Louisville. From then on, there was no stopping the Cards as all singles courts finished in two sets.

Scouting the Golden Bears: ITA ranks Cal as the No. 15 team in the country and has placed three singles players in the top-125 including No. 6 Â Â Â Carl Emil Overbeck. Theo Dean and Emil Overbeck are their only ranked doubles pairing, coming in at No. 32 in the latest poll. The Golden Bears are split in conference play, but their two losses are against No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 6 NC State.Â

The Cardinal are on a two-match win streak with 4-0 wins over No. 29 Miami and No. 25 Florida State.Â
