
Cards Grab Ranked Win Over No. 25 FAU in Final Day of Joan Joyce Classic

Louisville shutout No. 25 FAU, 4-0
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Louisville softball team closed out the Joan Joyce Classic with a win against No. 25 FAU on Sunday evening. The Cardinals defeated the Owls, 4-0 but fell to Purdue earlier in the day, 9-3.
The Cards move to 7-3 on the season after going 4-1 on the weekend.
In game one of the day, the Cards faced the Boilermakers at 1:15 p.m. Purdue got on the board early with three runs in the first inning. Louisville was unable to score until the end of the second inning and followed up with another run in the second inning. However, Purdue answered with six-straight runs to put the game away.
Shortly after, the Cards played No. 25 FAU in the final game of the Joan Joyce Classic. Louisville didn't get on the board until the second inning with two RBIs from Maddi Grant and Jordan Williams. Bri Despines batted in two runs for the Cards in the third and fifth innings.
The Owls started to come back in the seventh inning, loading the bases with no outs. Ally Alexander came through with a double play, leaving two on base for FAU. Mora singled to left field but Char Lorenz had a long throw to Despines, tagging FAU's runner out at home plate.
Alyssa Zabala (4-0) got the win in the circle, allowing 11 hits in 30 at bats and no walks.
The Cards will travel to Tampa, Fla. for a midweek contest against USF on Wednesday, Feb. 19. They will then play in the USF Tournament this upcoming weekend (Feb. 21-23) against Kent State, Wisconsin, Michigan and USF.
