December 09, 2025 | Men's Soccer
The goalkeeper earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team honors for his defensive efforts this season.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Louisville goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-Region Third Team, the outlet announced Tuesday.
A redshirt junior, Svetanoff anchored the back line for the Cardinals, posting a 1.06 GAA, .746 save percentage, and 53 saves across 17 matches (1,530 minutes). His reliable presence between the posts delivered seven clean sheets, including a shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 1 Stanford in which he earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors — and recorded his 100th collegiate career save.
The defensive stretch to start 2025 was unmatched in program history. The Cardinals opened with a 6-0 victory over Southern Indiana, where they did not allow a single shot. They followed with a 1-0 win at UAB — their first over the Blazers since 2002 — limiting them to one shot on target, then blanked IU Indianapolis 4-0 while controlling play with a 25-8 shot advantage and 9-2 margin in corners.
Against Stanford, Louisville limited the nation's top-ranked team to four shots on goal despite their 3.0 goals per game average entering the match. Svetanoff anchored the perfect start with a stretch of five consecutive shutouts, including four saves against Stanford and a diving stop in the 78th minute to preserve the result.
