Cross Country Turns Attention to NCAA Southeast Regional Championships
November 13, 2025 | Cross Country
The regional meet will take place in Charlottesville, Va. and provide athletes with the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams return to the course on Friday, Nov. 14 for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, which will be staged at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Va.
The women's 6K will kick off the morning at 10:00 a.m. ET and the men's race will follow at 11:00 a.m. ET as the men are set to move up to the 10K distance for the first time this season.
Friday's event will serve as one of nine NCAA regional meets across the nation this weekend that will provide student-athletes with the opportunity to punch their tickets to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships, which are set to take place in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday, Nov. 22.
The two top-scoring teams at each regional will automatically qualify for the national meet with the first four individual finishers who do not belong to an automatically-qualifying team or an at-large team also receiving individual automatic bids. Following the conclusion of all nine regional meets, the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee will select 14 at-large teams and two at-large individuals to round out the national championship field.
The Southeast Regional is made up of all Division I cross country programs from Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The field in Charlottesville will feature five men's teams and five women's teams that are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, including the Virginia men's team and NC State women's team that captured ACC team titles two weeks ago.
Last season at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, the Louisville women placed seventh in the team standings while the men placed 15th. Individually, Geoffrey Kirwa placed seventh overall in the men's 10K, becoming the first Louisville male to qualify for the national championship meet since 2016.
The Cards last competed at the ACC Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Oct. 31, where the men placed eighth as a team for their best team finish at the meet since 2016 and the women finished 11th.
Three Cardinals earned All-ACC honors on the men's side, one of only three schools to have at least three men finish in the top 21. Elsingi Kipruto led the way with a third-place finish on his way to earning ACC Men's Freshman of the Year honors, while Ian Kibiwot crossed the line in 18th and Kirwa placed 21st.
