Chicoine leads with 14 kills

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 8-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team swept Notre Dame for the second time this week, winning 25-11, 25-20, 27-25 for its tenth conference win of the season.

Louisville (18-4, 10-2 ACC) was led on offense by outside hitter Chloe Chicoine and opposite hitter Kalyssa Blackshear. Chicoine totaled 14 kills for her 15th game with double-digit kills and 10th straight match with double-digit kills. Blackshear logged 10 kills and added three blocks to the defense. Middle blocker Cara Cresse tabbed five kills and five blocks, while libero Kamden Schrand led the team with 11 digs. Setter/defensive specialist Hannah Kenny served two aces and defensive specialist Molly Urban added an ace of her own. The Cards hit .265 as a ateam with three aces and nine bocks.Â

Notre Dame (8-12, 5-7 ACC) was held to a .121 hitting percentage, totaling 34 kills, 36 digs and five aces. Outside hitter Morgan Gaerte has 10 kills, two blocks and an ace to lead the Fighting Irish. Pin hitters Sydney Helmers and Chichi Nnaji each recorded eight kills, and libero Maya Evens led the defense with 12 digs.Â

UofL will be back on the road next weekend to face NC State and Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 9.Â

Set 1: Notre Dame 11, Louisville 25
Louisville started off the match on an 11-0 scoring run that featured kills from Sherman, Petersen and Blackshear and blocks from Petersen, Cresse and Blackshear. Out of the second timeout, the Irish grabbed their first point on a kill, but the Cards kept on scoring. UofL got to set point on a setter dump from Cabello, and an attack error by ND ended the set 25-11.Â

Set 2: Notre Dame 20, Louisville 25
Louisville led 15-14 at the media break as the teams had 11 ties through the first 29 points and neither squad took a lead larger than three. The Cards extended their lead 20-17 off a kill by Chicoine that forced Notre Dame to use its first timeout. Cresse's fifth kill put UofL at set point, 24-19. The Irish held off the end of the set with a kill, but Cabello's third dump kill sealed the set 25-20 for Louisville.Â

Set 3: Notre Dame 25, Louisville 27
ND led 8-7 and on a 3-0 scoring run as Louisville took its first timeout. Scoring was tight once again, with neither team gaining more than a two-point advantage. The Cards led 23-22 as Notre Dame burned its first timeout, and the Irish used their second timeout after Sherman and Petersen combined for a block to get to match point. ND grabbed two more points on a kill and a block to tie the score at 24 and force UofL's second timeout. The teams traded two more points before Petersen put Louisville at match point number three and a block between Cresse and Cabello sealed the win 27-25.Â
