When Payton Petersen killed an overpass to give Louisville a 4-0 lead in the second set, Cal used its first timeout to try to sway the momentum. The break did little to slow the Cards' roll and when Cara Cresse killed another Cal overpass to go up 10-2, Cal had to burn its last timeout. Petersen served a 9-0 run to take UofL to a 20-3 lead. The Bears were able to score just twice more before falling 25-5 win. It was the fewest points allowed in a 25 point set since 2007 when the sets were changed from 30 to 25 points. Â UofL hit .481 to Cal's -.100. Chicoine added five more kills to her credit in the set.
Â
A five-point run early in the third took the Cards up 17-6 and force California to use its second and final timeout. Later Cal's Dominique Phills landed two straight aces to pull the Bears to within eight at 20-12 and UofL head coach Dan Meske called timeout. The break worked as Louisville took the set 25-16 to complete the sweep.
