Series History vs. Virginia
The Cards hold an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series. Louisville is an impressive 5-1 at home against Virginia dating back to 1988. Louisville is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Cavaliers. This will be the 12th consecutive season that the two teams will meet, playing every year since UofL joined the ACC back in 2014.
Last season's game saw Tyler Shough connect with tight end Jamari Johnson for a last-minute touchdown pass, allowing the Cards to escape Charlottesville with a 24-20 victory. Louisville running back Isaac Brown also scored two touchdowns while racking up 146 yards on the ground.
Notes: Louisville
UofL (4-0, 1-0 ACC) enters this game after securing a come-from-behind victory on the road against ACC foe Pittsburgh. Louisville found itself in an early 17-0 deficit. The Cards remained resilient and outscored Pitt, 34-10, the rest of the way to emerge victorious.
Miller Moss had his second consecutive 300-yard passing game, completing 33 passes for 339 yards and having four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing). Through four games, Moss has 1,029 passing yards.
Chris Bell would prove pivotal for the Cards. He had career highs in catches with 10 and yardage with 135, while also finding the end zone once. Bell would earn ACC Receiver of the Week Honors for his effort.
On the defensive side of the ball, TJ Quinn also earned ACC Linebacker of the Week Honors. Quinn finished the game with two interceptions and five tackles. Redshirt junior Antonio Watts also secured an interception in the game, picking off Pitt when the Panthers were knocking on the Cardinals' goalline.
Notes: Virginia
The Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0 ACC) come in ranked No. 24 nationally after knocking off then-No. 8 Florida State, 46-38, in double-overtime.
Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris earned ACC Quarterback of the Week accolades for his five-touchdown (two passing, three rushing) performance against the Seminoles. Morris threw for 229 yards and rushed for another 37 yards.
Two members of UVA's defense earned ACC weekly honors as well. Defensive lineman Mitchell Melton registered seven tackles and a forced fumble, while defensive back Ja'Son Prevard pulled in two interceptions.
Virginia is led at the helm by fourth year head coach Tony Elliott. Elliott has a coaching record of 15-24. Last season saw the Cavaliers experience their most success under Elliott's leadership, reaching five wins after only three victories in each of his first two seasons.
