No. 8 Cardinals Notch Sweep at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. -- Payton Petersen and Chloe Chicoine each had 10 kills to lead the No. 8-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 win over Duke in ACC volleyball action Friday night in Cameron Indoor Arena.
The Cardinals move to 15-4 overall and 7-2 in league play. UofL hit .327 for the match with 10 blocks and six aces. Setter Nayelis Cabello had seven kills, 27 assists with six digs and four blocks. Libero Kamden Schrand led the defense with a match-high 13 digs.

Duke hit .142 for the match with six aces and three blocks. The Blue Devils were led by Taylor Williams and Ashby Zubchevich, who each had 11 kills with Mailinh Godschall adding three aces and seven digs.

The Cards stay on the road, heading to Chapel Hill for a match up with No. 21 North Carolina at 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.

Duke used aggressive serving to take an early lead at 7-1 and sparked an early timeout by the Cardinals. After the break, UofL did not take its first lead until 16-15 on a Payton Petersen kill of an overpass. But Duke answered with a 7-1 run to go up 21-20, forcing UofL head coach Dan Meske to use his last timeout of the set. The Cardinals responded with a 5-2 run to take the first set 25-23. UofL benefitted from .297 hitting with four blocks. Duke's early hot hand cooled to .167 hitting, landing four aces along with three blocks

Louisville responded in kind, taking off to a 6-1 start before Duke called timeout. Freshman Hannah Kenny put together a 9-0 serving run to take a 15-4 lead and the Cards used .333 hitting to seal the 25-13 win.

After the break, Duke ran out to a 12-9 lead and the Cards did not take the lead until 14-13 on a kill by Ava Utterback. Louisville built the lead to three at 21-18 and then held off Duke down the stretch for the 25-22 win.
