Defense Leads Cards to Upset No. 2 Miami
October 17, 2025 | Football
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Louisville football team upset No. 2 Miami on Friday, 24-21, in the Cards first win against an AP Top 2 team since 2016. UofL improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play this season.
Linebacker T.J. Capers interception with 32 seconds left in the fourth quarter sealed victory. The Louisville defense came up big with four interceptions on the night, including Capers pick to stop Miami's potential game-winning drive. JoJo Evans Jr., Jabari Mack, and Antonio Watts added an interception each.
Miller Moss finished the game 23-for-37 for 248 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Chris Bell stayed hot, finishing with 9 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Brown closed out the night with 113 yards on 15 carries.
Louisville Head Coach Jeff Brohm said:
"I'm proud of our football team, big win for us. I thought we prepared well for two weeks. Anytime you lose it's not a lot of fun, but we worked hard and I thought we had a good plan ready to be aggressive and attack and I thought we came ready to play. It was beneficial to score the first two times we touched the ball and get a lead. And when you get a lead, it forces the other team to do some things different than what they normally do and that was different for them. Now they couldn't run it as much, they had to throw a little bit more. We were able get after the quarterback, we were able to disguise things and all that tied in together. We haven't been able to do that a whole lot this year – get leads. I just think we tried to be a little creative, we tried to be aggressive. We came ready to play and we finally squeaked it out at the very end. Our guys just played hard to the very end and I'm proud of them."
