Cards Earn a Strong Start in the Main Draw of ITA Regionals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team went 4-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles play on day two of ITA Ohio Valley Regionals.
The Cards got day two started with the opening round of doubles action. ITA's No. 54-ranked pair of Hamza El Amine and Walid Ahouda are seeded as the No. 1 pair in the tournament and received a bye in the first round.
Louisville duo Louis Chusseau and Russell Lokko were the first to compete, falling to Indiana's duo of Matteo Antonescu and Michael Andre, 8-3.
No. 9-seeded pair of Andre' Steinbach and Matei Onofrei earned the first victory of the day for the Cards by overcoming Eastern Kentucky's Adrian Contreras and Kartik Parhar by a score of 8-6 to advance.
Chusseau was the first to compete in singles play, dropping the match in a tight battle by a score of 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3) to Xavier's Nick Herdoiza.
Onofrei continued his winning streak after a dominant qualifying round by defeating East Tennessee's Arenui Luethi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Ahouda, who was seeded at 10, earned his first win of the fall by taking down Jack Satterfield of Vanderbilt, 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-4.
After earning a bye into the main draw, No. 16-seeded El Amine earned a quick 6-2, 6-4 victory over Xavier's Andrew Spurck while No.15-seeded Steinback won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 over Antonescu.
