
Cardinals Finish Tied for Fourth at Cardinal Cup

Carmen Griffiths finished in a tie for second overall at 1-under-par
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place after the final round of the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Club on Sunday. The Cardinals had their best round of the weekend as a team as they shot 1-over-par 289 in the final round. They finished at 21-over-par 885 for the tournament.
Individually, Carmen Griffiths had a stellar final round as she carded a 2-under-par 70, her best round of the weekend. She finished tied for second overall after shooting a 1-under-par 215 for the tournament. Griffiths carded five birdies on Sunday as the 70 was her best 18-hole round of the season so far.
Junior Thienna Huynh joined Griffiths with a top-10 finish as she finished tied for ninth overall at 4-over-par 220. In the final round on Sunday, Huynh had four birdies but finished with a 3-over-par 75 in the final round.
Like most of the Cardinals, Millie Cottrell had her best round of the weekend on Sunday. She had three birdies on the afternoon and finished even-par 72. For the tournament, Cottrell finished tied for 25th at 9-over-par 225.
Veronika Exposito also put together an even-par 72 round for the final round on Sunday, her best round of the weekend. She finished tied for 27th overall at 10-over-par 226 for the tournament and was one of five Louisville players to finish within the Top-30 overall.
Beatriz Barrios and Gabbi Bentancourt both competed as individuals this weekend for the Cards. Barrios shot a 6-over-par 78 in the final round and finished tied for 27th overall at 10-over-par 226 for the weekend. Bentancourt was also 6-over-par 78 in the final round and finished tied for 43rd overall at 15-over-par 231.
Freshman Bailey Burkett had two birdies in the final round and shot a weekend-best 4-over-par 76. She finished tied for 64th overall for the tournament at 21-over-par 237.
The next tournament for the Cardinals will be in a couple weeks when both the women's and men's teams travel to The Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Hosted by the University of Arkansas, the three-day tournament begins on Monday, Sept. 30.
