LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams begin the 2024 season on Friday morning in Huntsville, Ala. at the Southern Showcase.
The meet, which will be staged at John Hunt Park, will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET with the men's 8K and continue with the women's 5K at 11:00 a.m. ET.
The Cardinals will field 13 men and 13 women in the first meet of the campaign as one of the 44 teams slated to compete in Huntsville where numerous Power Four teams will toe the line, including a pair of top-15 programs from the University of Alabama.
Louisville's men's squad will be led by senior Ian Kibiwot, who placed sixth nationally in the men's 10000m at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after missing the 2023 cross country season due to injury.
On the women's side, the Cards return four of their top five scorers from last season's NCAA Southeast Regionals squad that posted the best team finish at the regional meet for the Louisville women since 2017.
The Cardinals also add 10 newcomers to the cross country program, including Nancy Chepleting and Geoffrey Kirwa who enter their first collegiate season after successful amateur careers in their native country of Kenya.
