No. 7 Louisville opens the season at No. 4 Maryland Friday followed by a Sunday matchup at American University
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The seventh-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team will face a tough road test in its 2024 season opener when the Cardinals travel to College Park, Md., for a top-10 showdown with fourth-ranked Maryland Friday at 6 p.m. Louisville will then head to Washington D.C. to take on defending Patriot League champion American University Sunday at 1 p.m.

Louisville Field Hockey Quick Hits
• Aimee Plumb was named to the 2024 Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Cardinals were picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the preseason poll.
• In 2023, the UofL field hockey team posted a 15-7 overall record and made its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, reaching the quarterfinals for the third time in the last five years. Louisville also went 3-3 in ACC play and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Cards finished the season at No. 10 in the NFHCA Coaches' poll after spending 10 weeks ranked among the nation's the top 10, reaching as high as No. 4.
• The Cardinals return 16 letterwinners from last year's squad including Plumb and fellow fifth-year senior All-America selection Mia Duchars. Louisville also welcomes nine newcomers with eight freshmen and one transfer.
• The Cardinals' eight-game home slate features four ACC opponents including defending national champion North Carolina along with a non-conference showdown with NCAA runner-up Northwestern.
• Justine Sowry is entering her 14th season at the helm. During her tenure, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to nine NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the quarterfinals in three of the last five years and reaching the semifinals in 2020.
