Cardinals Continue Road Trip with Cincinnati
August 28, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Louisville earned its first road win of the year on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is back on the road as it concludes its two-game road swing with another regional foe. The Cardinals are heading back up I-71 but will cross the river to take on Cincinnati Thursday night. The Cardinals and Bearcats will square off at 7 p.m. ET and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Cardinals first game of the road swing was in Highland Heights this past Sunday and the Cards came away with a 2-1 win over Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 3-0-1 and are unbeaten through their first four matches of the season for the first time since 2021. In the win over the Norse, Amber Jackson scored her team-leading third goal of the season to open the scoring. Brooke Dardano tallied her team-best fourth assist of the season on Jackson's opening goal. Dardano is tied for the ACC lead and tied for second nationally with four assists this season. Making her first collegiate appearance, Amelia Swinarski doubled the Cards lead with her first career goal. Swinarski becomes the third freshman to score in a match this season.
Offense has been a big part of the Cardinals unbeaten start to the season. Louisville has scored 13 goals through four games after scoring just 15 goals all of last season. Jackson's three goals already surpassed last year's team-leading scorer as four players had a team-best two goals last season. The Cards have nine different goal scorers this season, matching last season's total goal scorers through just four games. It took the Cards until game 14 last season to reach 13 goals on the year.
The Bearcats are a familiar opponent for the Cards as they have been conference foes in the BIG EAST and the American. Cincinnati leads the all-time season 17-11-1 but the Cards have had much of the recent success. The Cardinals have won four-straight meetings and 11 of the last 12 times the two teams have faced off. This will be the first meeting between Louisville and Cincinnati in the regular season since 2013 when the Cards won 5-4 on the road.
Following Thursday's clash in Cincinnati, the Cardinals will return home to begin another three-game homestand. The home stretch begins on Sunday, September 1, when the Cardinals host Evansville at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium at 7 p.m. ET.
