Cardinals Hit Road to Tulsa for Wednesday Match

Wednesday’s match gets underway at 8 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team heads on the road for the first time in the 2024 season, traveling to take on Tulsa on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN+.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
The Cardinals started off 2024 on the right foot, notching a 2-0 victory over Jacksonville last Thursday. Josh Jones and Gage Guerra each netted goals in the victory.
Playing in his first match in a Louisville uniform, sophomore Harvey Sellers recorded a clean sheet in the season opener. The junior college transfer stopped the only two Jacksonville shots on target for the shutout.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will mark the third all-time meeting between Louisville and Tulsa, with the Cardinals having won each of the first two.
Louisville tallied a 1-0 victory over Tulsa in the 2023 season opener, getting a goal in the 74th minute to secure the win.
ROED CLOSING IN ON UOFL CAREER ASSIST RECORD
Louisville midfielder Sander Roed has been one of the best facilitators on the pitch since stepping onto campus in 2021.
The senior tallied eight assists in 2022 and nine in 2023, giving him two of the top 10 single season assist totals in program history. Roed ranked top three in the ACC in both seasons.
Following an assist in the season opener against Jacksonville, Roed now has 23 career assists, tied for second-most in Louisville history. He sits just three shy of Tim Kubel's (2014-17) program record of 26. His 23 assists and the third-most among active players in Division I.
JONES NAMED TO TOPDRAWERSOCCER TEAM OF THE WEEK
Senior Josh Jones picked up right where he left off to start the 2024 campaign.
The defender headed home the opening goal in the first half against Jacksonville and then helped anchor a Louisville defense that recorded a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory.
For his efforts, Jones was named to the Team of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer.
GUERRA AMONG NATION'S TOP GOAL SCORERS ENTERING 2024
Senior forward Gage Guerra has been one of the best goal scorers in the country during his college career.
Guerra tallied 15 goals in two seasons at Army before transferring to Louisville in 2023. He then immediately made his presence felt in The Ville with six goals in his first five matches. However, injuries derailed his junior season, limiting him to just seven tallies on the year.
The Houston native got off to a hot start for the 2024 season, scoring in the season opener against Jacksonville. Guerra now has 23 career goals, tied for the eighth-most in Division I among active players.
