Kelsey signs Pryor to Louisville roster
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's basketball program and head coach Pat Kelsey announced Thursday the signing of transfer Kasean Pryor to the 2024-25 roster.
Â
The 6-10 forward (first name pronounced KAY-sin, rhymes with Jason) will join the Cardinals after spending the 2023-24 season at South Florida. He previously made stops at Northwest Florida State and Boise State. Pryor will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Â
"Kasean is one of the most skilled big men in the country," said Kelsey. "His ability to stretch defenses with his shooting and passing abilities makes him a nightmare matchup for the opposition. He plays with a passion and swagger that galvanizes the team. A fierce competitor, who rebounds at a high level, his on-court intensity is contagious."
Â
In 2023-24, Pryor appeared in 32 games for the Bulls, starting in 21 of those contests. He averaged 26.3 minutes per game, scoring 13.0 points and adding 7.9 boards. He shot 44.7% from the floor with a 81.5% clip at the charity stripe.
Â
The Chicago native logged 12 double-doubles with 18 games of double figure scoring, including five of 20-plus points.
Â
Pryor was the only player since the start of the 2010-11 season to record a game with 25 or more points, have five steals, five blocks, shoot above 90 percent from the free-throw line, and have one or fewer turnovers, logging that stat line against Rice on January 12.
Â
He was the first DI player to record at least 95 points, 30 rebounds, 8 steals & 90.0 free-throw percentage (min. 40 attempts) in a four-game span since Texas' Kevin Durant in March 2007.
Â
In 2022-23, he started in all 35 games at Northwest Florida State. He ranked second on the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game while shooting 46.2% from the field. Pryor added a 35.2% clip from beyond the arc and nearly an 80% mark at the free throw line.
Â
Pryor spent the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons out west at Boise State. He appeared in 13 games total for the Broncos, averaging 1.2 points his freshman year then 2.3 points his sophomore year.
Â
Pryor was a two-year letterwinner at Ann Arbor (Mich.) Pioneer High School. He was Honorable Mention All-State, First-Team All-Southeastern Conference Red and selected to the MLive.com Ann Arbor Area Dream Team as a senior after averaging 15 points and nine boards per game.
