Cards Fall to Clemson in Home Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 42-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 60 Clemson Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in their final home match of the season.
"Clemson played with more heart than us today," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "They deserve all the credit for this win. We have to attack this next week and come out with more energy in our next match."
The Cards dropped the doubles point to begin the match. Clemson won the first match of the day on Court 2 as the Tiger's duo of Max Damm and Wissam Abderrahman defeated Kosuke Nakanishi and Etienne Donnet 6-1. The duo of Natan Rodrigues and Miguel Avendaño got the win on Court 3, defeating Clemson's Marko Mesarovic and Ryuhei Azuma 6-2. The double point came down to Court 1 but the Tiger's 60th-ranked duo of Noa Vukadin and Maxwell Smith bested Will Mayew and Enrique Peña 6-4.
In singles action, Matthew Fung fell to Vukadin 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Clemson's Mesarovic defeated Andre' Steinbach at the No. 4 spot 6-4, 6-2 to extend the lead for Clemson. The Tigers clinched the match as Maxwell Smith defeated Nakanishi 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.
Before the match, Louisville honored Matthew Fung and Etienne Donnet on senior day.
The Cardinals will hit the road for their final two matches of the regular season beginning at Notre Dame on Wednesday afternoon with the first serve slated for 4 p.m.
