Cards divide and conquer at ITA All-Americans and Rocky Top Invitational

Louisville, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team kicks off their fall schedule this weekend, as they send Matei Onofrei to ITA All-Americans and his fellow Cards to the Rocky Top Invitational.
Onofrei will kick off his junior year campaign in Tulsa, Okla., representing the Cards at the ITA All-American Championships this weekend. The tournament runs Sept. 19 through Sept. 27, with Onofrei getting his singles start at Saturday, Sept. 19 in the pre-qualifying round. Match-up information will be announced at a later time.
The Iasi, Romania native wrapped up last season with an overall record of 20-8 and a conference record of 5-2. He qualified for the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship alongside partner Andre' Steinback. The pair was named co-champions of ITA South Sectionals.
ITA All-Americans marks the first of four tournaments this fall where individuals can automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship in November. 10 of this weekend's participants will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. Eight of these qualifiers will be the main draw quarter-finalists, with the remaining two being feed-in consolation finalists.
The pre-qualifying draw at the tournament feeds into the qualifying draw, followed by the main draw. The main draw of the championship runs from Wednesday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 27.
In tandem with All-Americans, the remaining Cardinals will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the Rocky Top Invite. Hosted by the University of Tennessee men's tennis program, the tournament will run from Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20.
Louisville will kick off the tournament tomorrow, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m. when they will compete against Memphis in a doubles format. Then, the team will take on Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State in a singles contest at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, the Cards take on Indiana at 9 a.m. in a doubles contest, followed by a singles contest against Memphis at 10:30 a.m. They will round out their weekend in Knoxville on Sunday with a doubles contest against Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State at 9 a.m., and a singles contest against Indiana at 10:30 a.m.
