Cards Even Series with 4-1 Win at Georgia Tech

Cards score four runs in the final two innings en route to 4-1 win
ATLANTA – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Georgia Tech 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Mewborn Field. The teams will meet in the rubber game Sunday at 12 p.m.

After the Yellow Jackets (27-17, 10-7 ACC) took a 1-0 lead, the Cardinals (24-17, 5-9 ACC) battled back with four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to even the Atlantic Coast Conference series.

Alyssa Zabala notched her ACC-leading 17th win of the season, surrendering one earned run while scattering four hits and striking out five in a compete game effort. Bailee Richardson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to pace the Cardinals at the plate. Riley Frizell and Vanessa Miller each had a home run and Daisy Hess singled to extend her on-base streak to 20 games.

The teams played through two scoreless innings before Georgia Tech broke through with a run in the third courtesy of Jin Sileo's leadoff homer.

The Cardinals used a pair of homers to plate three runs in the sixth inning. Frizell led off the frame by launching a shot over centerfield for her team-best 10th home run of the season to even the score at 1-1. Â After Richardson earned a walk, Miller followed suit with her eighth homer of the season to put Louisville on top 3-1.

The offense continued for the Cards in the seventh when Hess singled and proceeded to steal second to set up Richardson's two-out RBI single, making the score 4-1.

Kinsey Norton (6-4) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on two hits and striking out seven in five innings. Ella Edgmon went 2-for-3 to lead the Jackets offensively.
