
Cresse and Scott Head to Anaheim with US Collegiate National Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Libero Elena Scott and middle blocker Cara Cresse will train with the US Collegiate National Team and will travel to Anaheim, California next week to compete for a berth on the team. Â

The 2024 U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team will train in Anaheim alongside the U.S. Women's National Team athletes and staff. This program is used for consideration for selection to the Women's National Team and related events. A group of 17 top college volleyball players will join U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff along with two Olympic gold medalists at the USA Volleyball Spring Training Camp on March 10-16.

Cresse was named AVCA All-East Region, All-Pitt Regional, Second Team All-ACC and was named both an Offensive ACC Player of the Week and a Defensive Player of the Week. She played in 111 sets for the Cardinals and hit .440 on the year, ranking third in kills with 264. She had 17 aces and 389 digs and was second on the team in blocking with 111 to average one per set. She was the third leading scorer with 349 points. Her hitting percentage ranked her third in the nation at .440. She had ten matches in double digit kills, led by 12 against Missouri, Dayton, Boston College and Creighton. She had a season-high 13 kills versus Wright State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Her highest block total came against both Dayton and North Carolina when she tallied eight. A strong server, she had two aces against Washington State, Virginia with her season-high three against South Dakota, and Penn State. An outstanding student, she was named to the Academic All-ACC team and was a CSC Academic All-District selection.

Elena was named First team All-ACC, All Pitt Region, and All-East Region in addition to being named AVCA Second Team All-American. Voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, she was a four-time Defensive Player of the Week. Elena played in all 117 sets in 2023, amassing 523 digs with a team high 35 aces and 130 assists. She joined the 1,000 dig club and now stands at 1,352 career digs, that ranks her No. 6 on the all-time Cardinal list. She had 29 matches in double-digit digs with a season-high of 29 at NC State. She had 10 matches with 20 or more digs including 27 versus Creighton, 24 at both Pitt and Georgia Tech. A strong server, she had an ace in 25 matches with the season high of three coming at Pitt in the Regional Final. A setter in high school, Louisville setter turned libero also had 130 assists with a season-high of nine at Dayton and she had seven at North Carolina and versus Western Michigan. She was added to the All-ACC Academic squad as well.
The group's week of training will culminate in a Red-Blue scrimmage at 9:30 a.m. PT on Saturday, March 16, at the gym in Anaheim. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
"Our U.S. Women's National Team staff is thrilled for the opportunity to work with this special group of college student-athletes and pumped to work in a larger-group setting with Jordan (Larson) and Jordyn (Poulter)," Kiraly said. "It will be inspiring to watch these collegiate athletes and their development over the next few years, and to follow those who might work their way into the Women's National Team program."
