Cardinals Fall in ACC Opener

Rodrigues, Donnet earn another top-15 doubles victory
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL men's tennis fell 4-2 to #17 Florida State on its opening night of ACC action at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Natan Rodrigues and Etienne Donnet picked up the first win of the evening with an upset over Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpsenschif, the #14 doubles tandem in the country. Rodrigues and Donnet were ranked #20 headed into the match and won handily, 6-3.
The Cardinals dropped the next two matches to surrender the doubles point to the Seminoles.
Louisville first fell on Court 1 as Donnet lost to #13 Cornut-Chauvinc. On Court 4, #72 Will Mayew faced off against #125 Jamie Connell. Mayew picked up the Cards' first point of the match with a dominating 6-2, 6-3 victory, moving to 10-1 on the year.
Next, Andre' Steinbach won in straight sets for UofL on Court 3, tying up the match at 2-2.
Freshman Kosuke Nakanishi was defeated on Court 6 and Piet Steveker on Court 5 to hand #17 Florida State a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals.
UofL hosts a doubleheader on Sunday to finish off its nine-match homestand. The Cardinals will first take on Miami at noon followed by Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. Both matches are expected to be outside at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
