Luper and Cresse Receive Honorable Mentions
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â University of Louisville libero Elena Scott was voted to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American First Team. Outside hitter Anna DeBeer was selected to the All-America Second Team. Rounding out the honors for UofL were outside hitter Charitie Luper and middle blocker Cara Cresse, both of whom received All-America Honorable Mention.
This honor marks Scott's third straight All-American honors, making the Second Team in 2022 and 2023. In 2024, Scott was named the AVCA Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 29 following her performances in wins over Stanford and California. She also took home AVCA All-South Region honors in 2024, and was named to the All-Louisville Regional team after wins over Purdue and Stanford. Scott surpassed 1,500 digs in 2024, becoming only the third player in school history to do so. She now stands at third on the all-time digs list with 1,921. She was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and was tabbed as ACC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the season. Scott is currently first in the ACC in digs per set (4.37) and total digs (516), and was named a semifinalist for the AVCA Division I Player of the Year Award presented by Nike Volleyball. Scott was selected as the first pick in the second round of the 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation draft, going to the Indy Ignite.Â
DeBeer was selected to the second team as her fourth AVCA All-American honor in her Louisville career. Also voted to the First Team All-ACC, DeBeer became the fourth-ever Louisville player to record a career double-double, now sitting at 1,479 career kills and 1,073 career digs. DeBeer leads the team in double-doubles for the season with 12, recording one against Northern Iowa in the second round of the NCAA Tournament; she also leads the team in kills (394), total attacks (952), and points (456.5). She was tabbed as ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 14. DeBeer picked up even more honors in 2024, being named to the AVCA All-South Region Team and being named Most Outstanding Player of the Louisville Regional in the NCAA Tournament. DeBeer was the second pick in the first round of the 2024 PVF draft, joining Scott on the Indy Ignite.
Luper was tabbed for first team All-ACC for the second consecutive year, while also taking home AVCA All-South Region honors and All-Louisville Region Team honors in the NCAA Tournament. A transfer for UCLA, Luper has left her mark on the Louisville program, becoming the 26th Cardinal to join the 1,000 kill club during the Oct. 18 match against Wake Forest. She now sits at 18th on the all-time list with 1,173 career kills between UCLA and Louisville. Luper was selected as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7, following her performances against Clemson and Georgia Tech. With eight double-doubles on the season, Luper has also recorded new career highs in attacks (57), assists (3), aces (3), digs (17), and blocks (4) during 2024. As the eighth pick in the third round of the 2024 PVF draft, Luper became the third Louisville player drafted in 2024, going to the Vegas Thrill.Â
Cresse was voted Second Team All-ACC and to the AVCA All-South Region Team. Cresse ranks eighth in the nation and fourth in the ACC in blocks per set with 1.49, while also sitting at 11th in the country and third in the conference in total blocks with 164. Her 0.323 hitting percentage leads the team in addition to her team-leading 164 total blocks. For the week of Oct. 14, Cresse was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after wins at Florida State and Miami, where she recorded 16 blocks and nine kills through both matches.
